If you’re anything like me, you enjoy experimenting with new shades of eye shadow or lipstick from Sephora. When a product doesn’t work out, you feel like you just threw money down the drain — especially if you lost your receipt or chucked it in the trashcan.
Luckily, you can still return new and gently used products, even without your receipt. Here are 4 ways to get your money back for in-store and online purchases at Sephora.
In-Store Purchase Returns
According to the Sephora return policy, an item must be returned within 30 days to be eligible for a full refund. Otherwise, returns within 30 to 60 days of purchase are eligible for an exchange or store credit only. If your purchase fits one of those criteria, here are the two ways you can return your in-store Sephora purchase without a receipt:
1. Visit Store, Give Credit Card Number
You can return your items by simply presenting the debit or credit card used at the time of purchase. Just hand it over to a Sephora store employee, and he or she will be happy to verify your purchase via Sephora’s system. This is the easiest way to return your purchase, since you probably have the card in your wallet or purse already.
2. Visit Store, Give “Beauty Insider” Number
If you’re an exclusive Beauty Insider member, you don’t even need the credit card you used for the purchase. A store employee can look up your account number in the system.
Keep in mind that even if you present your Beauty Insider account number or the debit/credit card you used to make the purchase, you’ll still need to present a valid ID to verify your identity and complete your refund.
Online Purchase Returns
Online purchases can either be returned at store locations or at www.sephora.com within 60 days of purchase. Just like in-store purchases, if you return an item between 30 to 60 days, you can only get store credit. You’ll need to return it within the first 30 days if you want a full refund.
Here are the ways you can return an online purchase without a receipt:
3. Return Order by Mail
If you want to return your Sephora.com purchase by mail, first fill out the Return Form, which is located on the Order Summary in your package. Next, pack up your items and all packaging, along with the Return Form. Print out the prepaid return label and mail your return via USPS (U.S. Postal Service). All returns can be mailed to:

It can take up to two weeks to process online returns and credit your account or to issue a store credit. Return shipments can be tracked here, and you’ll receive any email notification once your return has been processed. 4. Return Order In Store
Another option for returning your online purchase is to bring your Order Summary and Return Form to any Sephora store location, along with the credit card used to place your order. A Sephora store employee will be happy to process your return and give you a refund, store credit, or product exchange.
