Whether you shop in-store or online, Home Depot offers a very forgiving return policy.
The hardware retailer accepts most merchandise within 90 days of the purchase for a full refund or exchange.
Additionally, you can extend the time frame to 365 days — a whole year — if you use a Home Depot Consumer Credit Card, The Home Depot Commercial Revolving Charge Card, or The Home Depot Commercial Account at checkout.
With a generous return policy like this, you shouldn’t hesitate to order your next household need online. You can even use our Home Depot coupons to save extra cash while you’re at it.
Some exceptions apply to the Home Depot return policy, such as custom products, gift cards, and utility trailers, which are non-returnable. Other Home Depot merchandise must be returned within 30 days, like damaged items, generators, consumer electronics, furniture, and gas-powered equipment and tractors.
To return your online purchase, you can either bring your merchandise to any Home Depot store location or mail them to Home Depot’s warehouse. You’ll have to contact Online Customer Support at 800-430-3376 to get the return address if you’re doing a return by mail.
You must fill out a return form and pack up all items (including original packaging) to send your merchandise back by mail. Once your return is received and processed by Home Depot, you’ll receive a refund on the credit or debit card you used to pay for the order.
For an in-store return, simply visit the Home Depot nearest you with either your receipt or your ID if you no longer have your receipt. All store returns are refunded immediately by the original form of payment.
For example, if you purchased the item with a credit card, the refund will go back to the card you paid with (and you have to have the card with you to do so). If you paid in cash, the Home Depot associate will refund you with cash. In the case you paid with a gift card or a store credit, you will be issued store credit for the amount of the refund.
Home Depot cares about its customers, which is why the store’s return policy is so generous. Making improvements around the house takes time, and often more than one trip to the store, so being able to fall back on the Home Depot return policy means you can get to work faster.
